Following the federal Coalition government’s announcement of the AUKUS alliance and the new nuclear submarine agreement with the United States and Britain. Green Left and Socialist Alliance are organising an online forum and discussion in response featuring voices from the pacific arguing for a nuclear-free pacific whose nations will bear the most disproportionate brunt of AUKUS war drive against China.

Representatives of several affected resident groups gave evidence on September 17 to a New South Wales parliamentary inquiry into the controversial Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Links projects. These are to be built as an extension of the sprawling road tunnel tollway project WestConnex. Green Left's Peter Boyle spoke to Gabi Brown who, along with William Holliday, gave evidence on behalf of Rozelle Against WestConnex. The interview was conducted via Zoom on September 21.

Green Left’s Suzanne James spoke to Professor Mark Beeson about the federal Coalition government’s surprise announcement of the AUKUS alliance, the new nuclear submarine agreement with the United States and Britain and in particular about its foreign, domestic, economic and environmental implications.
Beeson is Professor of International Politics at the University of Western Australia and founding editor of Critical Studies of the Asia Pacific. He is also Research Chair of the Australian Institute of International Affairs and an expert on international relations and foreign policy, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. The interview was conducted via Zoom on September 20.

On September 17, Green Left's Peter Boyle spoke to Dr Ayesha Jehangir who is a writer and academic currently based in Australia. Dr Jehangir specialises in peace journalism, digital war, online extremism, and justice. She has also worked as a journalist in Afghanistan and Pakistan and is currently writing a book about Afghan refugees and media discourses of war and conflict, which was also the topic of her PhD thesis.

Malaysia got its second unelected government in a row on August 20, when the king appointed Ismail Sabri Yaakob prime minister. The new PM is from the United Malaysia National Organisation (UMNO), which lost the last general election in 2018 after monopolising power since 1957, when British colonial rule ended.
Peter Boyle spoke to Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) deputy chairperson S. Arutchelvan (better known as Arul) via Zoom on September 7.
