The May 7 elections for the Senedd, Welsh Parliament, returned devastating results for Welsh Labour, who lost government for the first time since devolution in 1999. It received just 11% of the vote and was reduced from 44 seats to just 9.
Meanwhile the far-right Reform UK party gained 34 seats with 29.3% of the vote and the centre-left Welsh nationalist party Plaid Cymru formed government for the first time, with 35.4% of the vote winning them 43 seats, up from 23 the previous election.
The Conservatives also suffered, losing 22 seats, while the Greens won their first ever seats in the Senedd.
The result shows a clear rejection of the traditional parties of government, renewed interest in Welsh independence and the rising popularity of far-right politics seen in England and Scotland.
Isaac Nellist spoke to An Cú from the Welsh Underground Network (WUN) about the political situation in Wales and WUNs community action approach to campaiging for an independent, socialist Wales.
