COP26: A Left Response
Thursday Nov 18, 2021
Thursday Nov 18, 2021
COP26, the United Nations Climate Change conference, aims to get country pledges to rapidly reduce carbon and methane emissions in the next 10 years.
The Paris Agreement, signed in 2015, committed countries to try to stop warming at 1.5C — but it didn’t commit them to take any specific action when it came to emissions. Australia’s PM Scott Morrison has gone to Glasgow to see what he can do to water down the targets needed. He is only prepared to talk about 2050 targets, not targets for 2030.
Join the discussion for a left response to the aftermath of COP26 and the type of measures that are needed to address the Climate Crisis.
Speakers:
John Molyneux - convenor of Global Ecosocialist Network and veteran socialist activist based in Ireland
Sarah Hathway - national co-convenor of Socialist Alliance

What‘s happening in Cuba? | Green Left Show #17
Sunday Oct 10, 2021
Sunday Oct 10, 2021
The establishment media in the west profiled a lot of critical commentary about Cuba in the wake of the July 11 protests in that country. However, a lot of that coverage was misinformation and distortion. Since then, the media has gone back to its usual approach of ignoring developments in Cuba.
In this episode of the Green Left Show Helen Yaffe (Senior lecturer at University of Glasgow), Sujatha Fernandes (Professor of Sociology at the University of Sydney) and Ian Ellis-Jones (retired law lecturer) discuss the meaning and character of the July protests and the situation in the country since.
